Carol Kahn

I want to introduce you to Carol Kahn. She has vast experience in media, marketing, and publishing. She is also on the Board of the Fine Arts Museum of Sedona and works with various other community organizations. Carol’s experience includes working as a Television Executive Producer, producing a weekly news program as well as a multitude of documentaries throughout her career. She is well versed in brand marketing, strategic planning, creating partnership programs, promotional concepts, and sponsorship sales. Her background includes Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Travel Writer, Editor, Photography, Interview & Reporting Skills, News Producer, On-Air Talent, Creative Director, Director of Sales, and National and Local Sales Management! And, she is the owner of Carol Kahn Designs. Whew! I loved meeting this amazing and unique talent!

I wanted to know what inspired her to build such a varied, exciting, and valuable career.

The majority of my career has been in the media, and yes, you are correct; that laundry list of experiences is a long one filled with many adventures. It’s interesting to look back and see how everything transpired the way it has. But of all the things I have achieved in my career what I love the most is interviewing people and telling stories. I feel that everyone has a story to share, and to be that storyteller is exciting to me. My adrenaline soars with each interview I do!

In addition to a broad media experience, Carol is a Jewelry Designer. I wanted to know more about her unique artistic expression.

I have always loved jewelry. My grandmother inspired me. She was a 4’11 Italian woman who wore costume jewelry. She had a six-drawer dresser filled with jewelry, all carefully placed in little boxes that were labeled in Italian and secured with a rubber band. I used to open the drawers with such delight trying on her treasure trove of costume jewelry. It was a Cinderella moment for me. My jewelry business started as a hobby. I sold my jewelry to a few boutiques – nothing major. A few years ago, my daughter and several close friends suggested that I turn my hobby into a business. Hence, Carol Kahn Designs was born. I love it when people tell me how they feel when wearing one of my pieces. My goal is to create a more substantial presence with my jewelry and sell to more boutiques nationwide.

Carol has lived in Sedona for four years and knows a LOT of people. I asked who are some of the most interesting people she knows.

That is a difficult question to answer because I meet so many interesting people all the time – it’s hard to pick one or two. I have interviewed many of Sedona’s artists, such as Curt Walters, Mary Margaret Sather, Nicholas Honshin, Mike Medow, Michael Grant, James Muir, and Ken Rowe, to name just a few! Each person is fascinating, but more importantly, what transpires is this deep connection and bond that I have created with them. They will always have a special place within my heart.

What is the best advice you would give to people that you know?

Don’t take life so seriously; remember to have fun! Your passion is your path. And, follow your heart because it will never lead you astray.

Carol is such a creative and very dynamic personality. I loved talking with this Sedona Lady!
