Meet Jamie Brown. Music Producer
Q: Please tell us about what you do?
A: I am a singer-songwriter, director, producer, and guitarist. I’ve released three original albums over the past 30 years. I direct and produce music videos, but I mostly produce live music events.
Q: So you have a band?
A: Yes, my band is called Roxanne. Our first record came out in 1988. Our single, a cover of Wild Cherry’s “Play that funky music, white boy” got to #63 on Billboard’s singles charts along with a couple original rock songs getting attention elsewhere.
Our second record called “Radio Silence” was released in 2018, and our newest record,“Stereotypical”, was released this year.
Q: How many people in your band?
A: There are four of us in Roxanne.
Q: Please tell us what led you to get into music? What inspired you?
A: I was inspired by my dad and brothers, they were all musicians. Music played in my house all the time growing up. I started as a kid, performing in a band and in talent shows. I went on The Gong Show with Chuck Barris in 7th grade and won.
Q: What’d you do on the Gong Show?
A: Me and three friends put on an act we called “The Juniors” where the four of us basically made ourselves look like two midgets standing on a table and lip-synced to a sped up version of “At the Hop” by Danny and The Juniors.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Sedona?
A: My girlfriend and I have lived in Sedona full-time for over a year. Prior to that, we were living part-time between here, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. We’ve had our home here for over five years.
Q: And what brought you here to begin with?
A: I discovered my love for Sedona 35 years ago during a day off from performing with our band in Phoenix. I knew I wanted to live here one day. So five years ago, when I became unhappy in California, my girlfriend said “what about moving now?”. I found a house I liked on Zillow, called a realtor and bought a home here.
Q: What’s your favorite hiking trail?
A: Soldier Pass Trail. We live near the trailhead and spend a lot of our time hiking in that area.
Q: What do you do for fun other than music?
A: We love to enjoy everything Sedona has to offer. We have a lot of dogs and cats that we spend a lot of time with, and we love eating out with our friends.
Q: If you could choose anyone (dead or alive) with whom would you love to have lunch?
A: Ayn Rand. She’s controversial to some, but not to me. That’s who I’d like to have lunch with.
Q: What one quote you like from Ayn Rand?
A: One of my favorites from her is “We can evade reality but we can not evade the consequences of evading reality” amongst many other.
Q: Anything you wished you had learned earlier on in your career?
A: No, I’m really happy with the way things turned out. Our band’s experiences when we were in our early twenties drove us to pursue a path that was a lot better for us in the long run, as opposed to the route we initially tried to go down.
Q: What is Perfect World Entertainment?
A: Perfect World Entertainment is a live music event company we formed back in 1992 after we fell in to a really poplular act we started called “The Boogie Knights”. The Boogie Knights was the first act of its kind, it was basically the 4 of us in Roxanne dressed up in 70s outfits with wigs etc performing disco hits of the 70s along with choreography, comedy and alter egos. That quickly turned in to an assembly line of other era tribute acts and genres and now we have about 200 musicians located across the US perfoming somewhere 4 or 5 times a week everything from night clubs to corporate events. Some of the other acts that are well known are The Spazmatics (80s new wave), Metal Shop (80s hair metal) and Doublewide (country/classic rock).
