Meet Cherlita Brenman.
Q: What do you do in Sedona?
A: I am a teacher at heart. Coming from a formal teaching background, I am now a massage
therapist, a yoga teacher, and an exercise coach. I’ve had a private massage practice since I
moved here, and I currently maintain a private yoga studio at my home. I also teach at the
Sedona School of Massage, where I’ve been instructing since 2006. When I came to Sedona, I
taught yoga, fitness, pilates, and aqua pilates at local spas prior to opening up my own practice.
Q: How long have you lived in Sedona?
A: Since 1984 (almost 40 years).
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met while living in Sedona?
A: Enocha Ranjita Ryan. She’s a dear friend of mine. She’s been here since ‘76, and is an
amazing person, and healer.
Q: One person dead or alive, would you like to have lunch with?
A: I’d be totally thrilled to have lunch with Michelle Obama. I probably wouldn’t know what to
say to her, but I’d let her do all the talking.
Q: What one piece of advice changed your life?
A: What my mom always used to say, “move from your heart and the mind will follow”.
Q: What’s one film/one movie you could watch over and over again?
A: My Fair Lady.
Q: What is one song that never gets old?
A: I have two. The first is Hallelujah, by Leonard Cohen, and the second is a Camp Fire Girls
song that I sing all the time when I’m out in nature. It doesn’t have a name, but it’s about
someone who lost their loved one during World War II. I never get tired of either.
Q: How would your best friend describe you?
A: I hear “enthusiastic” from a lot of people. I know that I’m a good friend, and fun. I’d also add
“full”, as in “full of life”, which was a compliment paid to me recently on my birthday.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: Despite being an open book, I don’t think many people know about my adventures studying
in Finland when I was in college.
Q: What three words come to mind when you think about home?
A: Sedona, my husband John, and family.
Q: Anything you’d like someone to know that I haven’t asked about you?
A: My gratitude toward living here in Sedona. I am very happy, and secretly glad I moved here
before it became popular. But who wouldn’t want to live here? I am very appreciative of the
success and livelihood I’ve been able to make in this town. From the people, to the hiking, I love Sedona
