Joshua Loveall

Meet Joshua Loveall.  Joshua is a top landscape designer, He operates Joshua Tree and Landscape.
Q: What inspired you or led you to do what you do in the Sedona and Verde Valley area?
A: I am a landscape designer, contractor and owner of The Joshua Tree & Landscape Company.
Most people don’t know that I am also a General Contractor.   In addition, I have a hardscape certification in landscaping , which entails creating any solid outdoor structure like driveways, patios, fountains, firepits and walkways.

We install patios of certain types that allow homeowners to get a lifetime warranty on products. I do have a commercial and landscaping license as well, but we don’t do a whole lot of commercial work. We have installation crews, a tree service that a Certified Arborist runs, and we also have maintenance crews. I have just been fortunate to do design for 29 years now. I started right out of college. I was designing for other firms prior to becoming a contractor in 1997. I was originally going into the medical field, and I interned for a year and a half at a hospital and decided that I did not like that. I dabbled in being an artist. I do oil paintings and other things. I walked into the field of design because I just got sucked in. People started asking me to do things for them. And once I began to design for other firms, it just kind of pulled me that way. I’ve been featured on HGTV and did work for Senator McCain for 18 years.

Q: Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met in Sedona since you’ve lived here?
A: I would say probably, Senator McCain. Having spent time with him for a long time, he was funny and hilarious, yet real and down to earth. He was probably I’d say a very interesting character.

Q: How long have you lived in Sedona or Verde Valley?
A: I moved up here in 1993.

Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I’m into outdoor recreation. I have four boys, they’re Muay Thai kickboxers. I also coach baseball and basketball, so that keeps me pretty busy.

Q: How would your closest friend describe you?
A: Loyal, unwavering, consistent.
Q: What advice would you give someone that was just looking to you for some kind of word or wisdom?
A: There are a lot of things I could tell him. Where do you start? Where do you stop? I guess that the first thing that comes to mind is to Listen more than you speak.

Q: When friends come to visit that haven’t been here before. Where do you take them?
A: To dinner or hikes. I always like L’Auberge on the creek for lunch. Robbers Roost is a nice hike with the big cave and West Fork is probably my favorite.

Q: Is there anything interesting about you that you’d like someone to know?
A: I can pull a vision out of people that they didn’t know they had and make it materialize before their eyes. That would be simplifying it if that makes sense. Very creative, out-of-the-box thinker at least, that’s what they tell me.

Q: What one piece of advice changed your life?
A: I had a guy once say that if you say you value something and it’s not part of your daily life cycle, you’re lying to yourself. You don’t value it as much as you say you do whether that be health, family, finances, whichever it is.

Q: What three words come to mind when you think of the word “home”
A: Castle, peace, and strength. That’s where you get your strength. If you don’t have all that at home, you’re not going to have it anywhere else.
