Gabriel Browne

Meet Gabriel Browne.  Gabriel is a Sedona Music Man!  Many locals know him as the man who brings the fun and musical style to many events and special occasions in the community.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: I am the owner of Downtown Browne Productions, a DJ and entertainment production company. We book entertainment for weddings and special events. Weddings are our specialty, but we do other things as well. I started the company about 15 years ago. I’ve been DJing for almost 20 years. I started the company in Flagstaff after I went to NAU for a short while. My company was more of a sound and lighting production company for large-scale festivals. I was doing mixing for bands and big stages; it was fun but a lot of work. At one point, a friend of mine asked if I would like to try DJing, and my first experience was a wedding. I loved it! I focused on growing a company with a great team of Dj’s. We have a dozen guys now between here and Phoenix.

Q: What is your specialty or role in your company?

A: My specialty is talking with clients and finding out what they want in their Dj’s. We talk about their taste in music and the type of DJ personality, and then I play matchmaker. I find the best fit as well as create the vibe and energy that speaks to them. I spend most of my day on phone calls, emails, and talking to clients. I still DJ quite a bit, playing world and house music.

Q: What is one thing you wished you learned earlier in your life?

A: I’ve had a good life and a great family. I come from a music background, so this is a natural fit. The only thing I would have done differently in my life is DJing and music even earlier. I might have traveled more or became a touring musician.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Sedona?

A: Almost all my life. My parents moved out here when I was 14 from New York City. When I was 19 or 20, I went to college in Flagstaff and stayed there for about 15 years. I got tired of the weather, and I decided to go home to Sedona.

Q: What is something that you love about Sedona?

A: We’ve great views, energy, weather, and I’ve consistently found more people that I jived with over time. Sedona has grown on me more over the years. It was more difficult growing up here since there’s not much going on here. It’s too mellow, but as I’ve gotten older, my life has shifted. I love the outdoors, and I love to go swimming in the river.

Q: What is one piece of advice that changed your life?

A: There was a time where I started exploring my entrepreneurial spirit. Both of my parents are entrepreneurs. In my early 20’s I was in sales with an insurance company. I learned about life, the entrepreneurial spirit, time management, and the ability to feel confident.

Q: Who is the most exciting person you’ve met here in Sedona?

A: The woman that I’m with now is the most interesting person I’ve ever met in Sedona, my beloved Gwen. I love hanging out with her. I want to do whatever I can to support her.

Q: What age would you be again, and why?

A: In my late teens or early 20’s. During that period, I had the opportunity to go to school. I could have been a little more devoted to my passions, ideas, and my own heart.

Q: How would your closest friend describe you?

A: My closest friend here in town is also my Tai Chi instructor. He would describe me as a good student both in Tai Chi and in life. He would probably describe me as someone very dedicated to his life, work, friends, and family – and that I am a genuine person.

Q: What would you consider as your greatest accomplishment?

A: I still have a lot to accomplish. Lately, I have been spending quite a bit of time listening to Alan Watts. Not only is he fun but also a wise person. Interestingly, one of my most significant accomplishments is learning Tai Chi.

Q: Choosing anyone, who would you love to have lunch?

A: Alan Watts. He’s just fascinating. Just having an actual conversation with that man would be life changing.

Q: How would you like to be remembered?

A: Touching people’s lives.
