Meet Tracey Shadley.
Tracey operates a business that helps people become organized!
Q: Please tell us about you and what you do.
A: “My main business is Organize A-Z, and I design space. I make space more useful – closets, offices, garages, pantries. I go in and make everybody’s life easier by helping them find stuff and have a place for everything. And on the other side of the coin, I work with Sedona Now TV, and I do everything from sales to a little bit of producing and helping to produce the commercial segments. I’m Glenn Scarpelli’s right arm. It’s great because my organizing skills help keep everything on track moving smoothly.
Q: Do you do something with horses or play with horses? And where are you doing that?
A: I just started taking riding lessons. I’ve taken riding lessons on and off my entire life, and I took a horse therapy session with a friend of mine a few weeks ago, and it just got me reminded me how much I like being with animals.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in Sedona?
A: My ninth anniversary just passed. I got here on October 3rd from Montreal.
Q: What brought you to Sedona?
A: “Originally, when I came here, just like everybody else, I was a tourist. I was looking for something for myself, a little retreat, and came to Sedona and fell in love with it. I have a very good friend, who’s still my best friend today – I stayed at her cottage. When I decided to take yoga teacher training, I returned, and I stayed for three months. The training was a month, but I stayed here for three months and returned to do a second training. I stayed another three months, and I decided this was where I wanted to be. I started the long road to making that happen, which was not easy, but it was worth it.
Q: What is the one trait you consider essential to your success?
A: Tenacity – that’s the first thing that comes to my mind. And I think people might use different words for that.
Q: What is something you love most about Sedona?
A: “I have to say, besides every day the surroundings are different, I mean, that’s obvious. For me, it was community. I met the best group of men but especially women here, and I’ve made just wonderful friends. I find that everybody is so supportive of each other, helps build each other up, and helps each other’s business grow. And I don’t think you find that in a lot of places. There are genuine people here, and that just drew me.
Q: Who is the most exciting person you’ve met here in Sedona?
A: He doesn’t live in Sedona, but Jeff Masters. He doesn’t practice anymore. He was my anatomy teacher in my yoga training. He’s also a bodyworker, and I’ve had different bodywork done. I call him magic. I’ve sent everybody to him. Once I went there, I could barely move – I couldn’t bend my leg, and in 15 minutes – boom – off you go.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: Get rid of everything that doesn’t serve you. that goes with my job to keep your life organized and not keep clutter and stuff you don’t need. And as well as toxic relationships or anything like that.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: I’ve always wanted to go to Israel and Egypt. That’s like a trip that’s on my bucket list. I look at Andrea Smith’s photos, and I’m like drooling over her having breakfast with the pyramids. That’s what I want to do.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: My husband and I are talking about it all the time now because he just retired. It would be six months on the beach somewhere and six months somewhere else. It could be here, or to be totally honest, it might be back in Canada because of free healthcare, ha-ha.
Q: What’s your favorite beach?
A: My favorite beach is Treasure Cay in the Bahamas. A tiny little island in the Abacos. It’s the most gorgeous, pristine beach ever.
Q: What kind of music do you like?
A: Actually, my friends would laugh at that. I am not a music person. But I am into the seventies and eighties disco. If I’m going to have a dance party, I’d prefer Madonna. I know I’m really lame when it comes to music, ha-ha.
Q: If you choose anyone with whom would you have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
A: This is the first person that popped into my head. I don’t know why, but I love Cher. The first concert I ever went to was Sonny and Cher. I’ve always just had this attraction to her. I saw her in Vegas and Phoenix, and she’s old and still half-naked up there. Unbelievable! I just think she’d be funny and have a lot of interesting stories to tell. It would just be fun.
Q: Is there anything I haven’t asked you that you’d like someone to know about you?
A: I’m very shy, ha-ha. You’ll laugh, but I think many people look at me and think I’m not friendly, and it’s not true. I’m shy in big groups. When I’m in small groups, I’m great. But throw me into a chamber mixer, and I like to stay with my people. I’m not good at small talk. And I’m terrified of public speaking, which a lot of people wouldn’t believe either.”
