Kim Roda

Meet Kim Roda.

Kim is a true Artist with floral arrangement… She has adorned many many events in our community!

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: I own Jazz Bouquet Flower Shop. Our focus is on day-to-day floral delivery, but we also focus on resorts and weddings. When my husband and I moved here in 2005, I wanted to get involved with Sedona’s resort and wedding business. It was big back then, and now it’s grown even more. During the Pandemic, we’ve been fortunate because there have been many elopements. However, it hasn’t been lucky for the brides (ha-ha) because they have to adjust their plans, but we have to change with them as well.

Q: What’s your favorite flower?

A: It goes with the season. Often, I get my inspiration from the customer or the bride because I listen to what they’re envisioning, and I go from there. But one of my favorite flowers is a zebra ranunculus, and of course, peonies.

Q: Is there one thing that you wished you learned earlier in life?

A: I left the corporate world behind when I left San Diego. I was the Director of Telecommunications at Children’s Hospital.  I wish that I didn’t get so busy and focused on making a living and perhaps ventured into the creative arts and opened a flower shop 30 years ago.

Q: Is there anything you’ve done in the past that was special or something you remember doing that you just loved?

A: The large resort events and weddings always stand out because it’s such a production. We did a large event at Enchantment – it was so gorgeous and beautiful that this particular wedding stood out. The bride wanted pampas grass, so her vision was challenging for us. Also, I enjoy supporting the community, and I do quite a lot of floral with the film festival over the years.

Q: What is one piece of advice that most changed your life?

A: I do take advice, but a lot of times, I listen to my intuition. Recently, I decided to stop serving the High tea and focus on the flowers. That was about three years ago.

Q: What age would you be again, and why?

A: I enjoy being at the age that I am in right now, but I would say 29. That year was one of the best because that’s when I got married.

Q: How would your closest friends describe you?

A: I hope that they would describe me as a caring person, someone who’s there for them and that I do make myself available to spend time and have fun with them.

Q: What would you consider your greatest accomplishment?

A: My greatest accomplishment is raising my three sons. Family is very important to me, and I now have four grandchildren. In addition one of my greatest achievements was mentoring my team of professionals to be successful in their career fields and to see them go on to bigger and better things.

Q: Choosing anyone with whom would you love to have lunch? Why?

A: One of the greatest women to me is Eleanor Roosevelt. She was very progressive for her time, so she’s somebody I would like to talk to. Other than that,  I would like to have lunch with my great grandmother, Ingeborg. At the age of 30 she immigrated from Sweden all alone after her family disowned her for religious beliefs. She crossed the plains and settled in Idaho.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met in Sedona?

A. The most interesting person I met in Sedona was the Mayor Rob Adams. I invited him to my grand opening and he held a ribbon cutting ceremony. We sat and had a cup of tea and really appreciated him taking time out of his busy schedule.

Q: What drew you to Sedona?

A: I was born and raised in San Diego, but when my husband and I had the opportunity to move here, from one beautiful place to another, we just fell in love with Sedona. Not only for its beauty, but we also love the people.
